Election Aftermath

The most expensive election in American history is behind us. Thankfully.  negative ads, explosive accusations, gambling on people groups for support, manipulative efforts and the constant barrage of talking points from talking heads are, for now, much quieter. Yard signs are down (or supposed to be) and now comes the challenge—will we stop complaining, get to work, and will we Christians hang in there for the long haul to STAY on our knees and intercede for those “in authority?” (Romans 13)

Our country needs a fresh explosion of repentance and surrender to Jesus Christ as Lord of all; we need to welcome Him and the Bible BACK into our nation and our daily life. We have kicked Him and His Word out only at our peril and we are daily reaping the negative results. Complaining in our streets is rampant; drugs, drunkenness; greed and corruption and corporate graft is atrocious; alternative lifestyles are not sin for which to be ashamed and come to repentance and find deliverance in God—instead, they are promoted and reason is found for pride therein; our economy remains suppressed with high unemployment and no “robust” recovery in clear sight.

“If My people” (2 Chronicles 7:14) is more than a slogan; it is more than a campaign rally cry during political season; it is a LIFE ALTERING surrender to our God who made us and who still holds out His hands of redeeming grace. We are surely reaping the confusion that reigns when one kicks God away (“the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom”)—so we who are His need to remain on our knees in intercession for our country, for its leaders and its people.  We need to continue to cry out for God’s mercy to prevail.

If you put your trust in men and women in office—then trust is misguided. We trust God and love people. Now those who succeeded in their battle to be elected need to step up and govern. But they need to do so with the fear of God, a love for Him and His Word, a respect for life and the unborn, and with righteousness as their goal and desire.  No one is yet perfect, so our support and loving concern and prayer need to continue.

If My People—let us continue to let God’s command grip our souls as we trust in Him; as we look into the face of Jesus for His mercy and grace; as we repent from the sins which so easily beset; as we cry out for God for fresh revival. After all, the deepest change comes not necessarily from the ballot box but from one heart at a time, changed by the Holy Spirit—from one person at a time being saved and delivered by Jesus Christ Himself. Let us continue to pray. Let that be OUR Election Aftermath.
