A New Life to Come

Spring holds promise. Flowers bloom, birds sing, longer days and sunny days return to our area, and there’s a general sense of well being.

Well…usually that’s what happens. But, this year there’s a difference. This year we see pictures of war, precision bombs surgically dropping and excising their targets from population centers thousands of miles away from you and me. Thankfully, technology has enabled armies to liberate and not decimate. We pray for God’s grace and protection upon our men and women in the military and for a minimum loss of life as the turning away of an evil regime takes place. Though the sun may still shine and the birds may still sing, there’s a worry that accompanies the song.

What can we as Christians do? We can pray. We can lift up our President and the leaders who are making daily decisions as to the conduct of the war at hand; we can pray that soldiers return home safely to loved ones, and pray that they sense the support of a grateful nation here at home.

And there’s something else. As Christians, we have a peace that passes understanding. It is not shallow to minister the peace of Jesus to people who are confused, who are divided over the war, who are fearful and full of turmoil for the outcome. You see we have the Prince of Peace who reigns within. And we have news that is good, even when situations are bad.

Pray quickly and tangibly for your neighbors in need; let us be ministers of His grace and presence in a world of turmoil. Let us be the beacon of lights in a darkening world scene.

This is the Easter season. Does the war steal away our joy? Never. That joy is because of Jesus and no matter what happens, He is still Lord of all. Let’s take our opportunities to quickly minister a word of hope and life. So often it seems that Jesus uses times of turmoil to cause people to become needy for Him. But the end result isn’t that people simply become needy, but that the neediness brings them to Him in surrender. He is the only One who has answers for life.

It was just such a time of darkness, a brutal torture and beating took place. Jesus suffered at the hands of sinners for whom He also bled and died. But it doesn’t end there. Jesus rose from the dead. And now? Now, He’s praying for you and me. The Bible declares He ever lives to make intercession for us. That’s GOOD NEWS! Let’s be sure to spread the GOOD NEWS around!
