From The Pastor's Pen

A NEW SONG

A new year; a new opportunity; a new day ripe with possibilities. This is something we all share and have in common:  our old year is gone, along with its mistakes and discouragements; along with failures and frustrations.

Now we have new days for new songs—new opportunities for fresh obedience to the leadings and promptings of the Spirit.  What we make of 2007 is in our hands—we can each listen to Jesus, to the promptings of The Holy Spirit, and we can obey Him preciously, seriously, sincerely.

I always consider three questions at the end of a year and beginning of a new.  These questions are telling, and help me discover important priorities—where is my heart, what is my passion, my pursuit, my purpose?  The three questions:

1.   What kind of Christian do I want to be?

2.   What kind of Christianity do I want to live?

3.   What kind of Church do I want to have, or help build?

In Phillippians 3:13-14 (NKJV), Paul says,

Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Let’s resolve to run after the Lord with with all of our might.  Jesus will guide us in His plan and purpose—and as we follow Him in obedience, we will celebrate a 2007 rich in His presence and provision, fresh with new life and anointing.  Truly, then, our new year will be filled with A New Song!
